To support their well-rounded, six-year college preparatory academic program, Archbishop Williams High School has been working with H&A for many years on a wide range of projects. The partnership is focused on the continuous revitalization of school facilities and campus spaces in pursuit of its commitment to “give the young men and women who walk through [AWHS’s] doors the prospect and ability to pursue not only higher educational opportunities but also their dreams.”
A strong testament to that commitment is the Ted Healy Sports Complex, a 6,000 SF field house with a 1,725 SF exercise room, four locker rooms, athletic and trainer offices, and equipment storage. The development has expanded and significantly improved Memorial Field, constructed in 1963, to meet the needs of AWHS’s growing and diverse athletic program. Bright blue and vibrant gold accent the walls and floors of each room, evoking the school spirit of “Archie’s," while the school logo adorns the locker room floors.
Another recent series of phased enhancements conducted by H&A began with a complete interior renovation to the third floor of Nazareth Hall, home of Fine and Digital Arts, Theater, Band, and Music studios, as well as the 7th and 8th grade classrooms. The renovations created learning and discovery spaces outfitted with the latest technology and educational resources.
Phase 2 renovations to the Student Center, including general table, booth, or high-top table options, serving line, and grab-and-go food services, emulate the experience of a University setting. Whether collaborating on a project, enjoying lunch with friends, or slipping away for a bit of solo study, the revitalized Student Center has the ability to adapt to any of the students’ needs.
Another component of Phase 2 is the major alteration to the Volpe Gymnasium to enhance the school’s athletic program status with a completely new interior including flooring, bleachers, equipment, lighting, finishes, and ADA compliance throughout.
The AWHS Theater Ensemble provides students a theater experience in both dramatic and musical productions. H&A's Phase 3 design and renovations to the main auditorium created a breathtaking space in the design and replacement of flooring, seating, lighting, and audio system. A stage extension provided the capability for more elaborate sets and a greater number of performers on stage.
Wrapping up Phase 3, the main building received an outdoor lift, as well as two interior incline lifts to provide access to the gymnasium, auditorium, and main academic floor. Additional exterior facility improvements included replacement of the roof on the main building, and secure and accessible exterior door replacements to ensure the longevity and useful life of the building.
Future phases of work include a general building facelift with masonry repairs and fenestration replacement for sound weatherization, and improvement of internal daylighting conditions.
